DEVELOPER & CHROME PREVIEWS

Local PDF tools in Chrome, Node.js and your terminal.

Use the Chrome side panel for everyday document work or the local engine preview for supported page automation.

Work in Chrome’s side panel.

Compress, merge, split, remove, rotate, reorder, reverse, number, watermark, convert images to PDF and export JPGs without opening the website. A separate button opens a full-screen website editor when you choose more space or advanced editing.

Download Chrome extension 0.2

Install and test the extension

  1. Extract the ZIP. In desktop Chrome, open chrome://extensions.
  2. Enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked and select the folder containing manifest.json.
  3. Pin YourFreePDF and click its icon. The side panel should open alongside your current page.
  4. Choose a non-sensitive PDF, run Compress PDF, and download its result. No website tab should open.
  5. Choose Use result in another tool, then test Rotate or Split locally.
  6. For the larger editor, choose a full-screen tool and click the website button. Keep the panel open until the PDF arrives directly in that tab.

The extension bundles its PDF engines, requests the sidePanel permission and limits its handoff helper to the listed YourFreePDF origins. It does not inspect arbitrary webpage contents, browser history or login cookies. You choose the files explicitly. Local processing does not require an account. This preview is not published in the Chrome Web Store; its TESTING.md includes the full installation and verification checklist.

Inputs are limited to 50 MB combined. Core page operations allow up to 500 pages; rendered conversions support up to 150 pages with a device-memory budget. Image compression loses source text, forms, links and existing signatures. Review the exported copy before sharing it.

Local npm engine & CLI

Merge, extract, rotate, inspect and add Bates labels from Node.js without sending document contents to a server. The package is a downloadable preview tarball; it is not published to npm yet.

Download engine & CLI
npm install ./yourfreepdf-engine-0.1.0.tgz
npx yfp merge first.pdf second.pdf --output combined.pdf
npx yfp extract combined.pdf --pages 1,3-5 --output excerpt.pdf
npx yfp bates excerpt.pdf --prefix DOC- --output labeled.pdf

The CLI refuses to overwrite a source. Review files before using automated output. OCR, browser sanitization, table extraction and Office rendering are outside this Node preview’s scope.

Public capability endpoint

GET /api/v1/tools

Returns public tool availability and processing-location metadata. It does not accept PDFs. A hosted processing API with API keys, quotas and billing is not implemented; use the local library for supported automation.

Self-hosted conversion service

The LibreOffice container remains prepared but undeployed, following your hosting decision. It is not activated by the SDK or extension. PDF/A also requires a working conformance-validation stage before it can be offered.

Choose your language

English is the original version. Machine translations should be reviewed.
